Being the fifth daughter of the Sodi Miranda marriage, Thalía grew up as the baby of the family. Like she always says “I felt like I had five mothers, my mom and four sisters.” Family has always been very important to Thalía. She began her TV career very early in her life. When she was just a little twelve month old baby she appeared in a commercial for juice and at the age of three she was on a show called ‘Estudiantinas que Estudian.’

Thalía was a kid who hated being a girl, instead she enjoyed playing baseball with boys, dressing in jeans, and climbing trees. She didn’t really like going to school which was why she would always be late, even though she lived right in from of the school. She attended Thomas Alva Edison School but later she was enrolled at the French school, Liceo Franco Mexicano, where she became fluent in French.

At the age of six, she was about to become autistic because of the pain caused by her father’s death. When he died she didn’t speak for a whole year. She was so quiet that they took her to psychiatrists and doctors specialized in children, but nobody found the reason for her silence. Because of these experiences, later she wrote the song ‘En Silencio’ (In Silence) for her second album, which says a lot about her childhood.

Her childhood home, known as “La casa de los Perros” is located in the city of Mexico. This house brings back a lot of fond memories to Thalía. In one interview she said, “My house was like the one from The Adams Family’s. At the entrance, there was a bear like the one from the Adams and a fountain in the middle. The furniture was all different colors… right when you knocked, there was a man like Largo to greet you.” Thalía didn't always want to be in music or acting at the age of seven to thirteen, she dedicated herself to gymnastics, according to her she was going to be like the famous athlete, Nadia Comaneci.

During her early childhood years she took ballet and piano lessons. By the time she was nine, she joined a musical group called Pac Man, which later changed its name to Din Din. This group participated in the TV show ‘Juguemos a Cantar.’ Din Din recorded four albums; ‘Pitubailando,’ ‘Somos Alguien Muy Especial,’ ‘En Accion,’ and ‘Recordando el Rock and Roll.’

Towards the end of 1984 she was in the musical ‘Vaselina’ (Grease) in Mexico. At first she was a substitute for another girl in some scenes and then she got the part of the main character, Sandy. She loved the theatre because it reminded her of watching her oldest sister, Laura Zapata, a well known actress.

In 1986, Sasha got out of the group Timbiriche and Luis de Llano asked Thalía to join the group. At this time Timbiriche was the most popular group in Latin America and Thalía had the opportunity to be a member in the group’s best years. At the time she had a small role in a soap opera called ‘La Pobre Senorita Limantour.’ At the age of sixteen she co-starred in ‘Quinceañera,’ a soap opera with the actress Adela Noriega. But, this is what Thalía had to say about this time in her life: “Something I will never forget is that people had an image of me like in ‘Quinceañera,' a little innocent school girl, and when I came back to Mexico, they saw me as something weird. Just because I had an image with ‘Flower Power,’ I dressed with bell bottoms, fake eyelashes, showing the belly button, and with a white streak on my hair. People didn’t understand me and I got criticized a lot.”
